What I Remember
How Pam and Faye used to call you Monkur
The night we played mahjong and you ‘zhar hu’-ed at J Kok’s place
The time we played ‘I Never’ outside my room and you made everyone drink when you said you had never spent more than 20 bucks on a haircut
How cheated I felt when you told us months later that it was a complete LIE
The time you, Sijie and I stayed on at the prata shop after everyone left
How we spent hours telling Sijie about Uni life and how to do well, talking about the future and getting him psyched up
How ironic it was
Being curious to know whether you would be rich and successful in spite of your slacker image, given how smart you obviously were
You singing ‘sian diao, sian diao’ to the tune of Tuo Diao
Being your partner in defense
You calling yourself Cannavaro and me Nesta
Me calling you Jar-Jar Binks
Saying ‘Nice Shot’ and giving you a hi-5 after your shot sailed over the fence and everyone else was less sympathetic
Me trying to look impressed when you demonstrated your little tricks
The time after soccer at NUS when you sang Bad Day by Daniel Powter at the top of your voice with no hesitation whatsoever, immediately after I said how irritating that song was
Me thinking that your singing was actually not bad
Laughing to myself when I remembered something lame that you said, then being glad that you had become part of our clique
Being impressed when you told me how you would sometimes cycle all over Singapore alone
Your ACJC Squash T-Shirt
Fighting through the crowd at Liquid to get a cigarette from Neth for us to share
The look you gave me when 2 hot chicks came to dance right beside us
You telling me in the toilet what a loyal bastard I was
You singing ‘Wan Wen duo mei’ to some made-up tune at supper
Anyone Want Stuffing?
Wishing I had more time to get to know you better
Being grateful to know you are surrounded by friends
